Three-Time NBA All-Star And Former Chicago Bull Norm Van Lier To Keynote DePaul Sports Law Conference

Norm Van Lier earned the distinction of being the best point guard in Chicago Bulls history during his NBA career. The three-time All-Star will share his experiences at a conference exploring the legal issues in intercollegiate sports sponsored by the DePaul University College of Law Oct. 5 at the DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd, Room 8005. The conference begins at 8:15 a.m. and Van Lier’s address is set for 2 p.m.

Workshops will address the legal issues involving college athletes with disabilities, the conduct of coaches and athletes, gambling in college athletics, athletic equipment safety and what happens when business and college athletics meet.

Presenters include noted sports and legal experts including:

Van Lier, nicknamed "Stormin’ Norman" during his college years, will add his unique insight and perspective as the keynote speaker. Van Lier enjoyed a 10-year NBA career, seven as a Chicago Bull. He left his imprint as a member of the Chicago Bulls from 1971 to 1978. He ranks third in steals and assists (behind Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen), ninth in total points and ninth in total games played.

Van Lier currently is a basketball commentator and analyst for Fox Sports Chicago and WMAQ-TV. He also is a radio personality for WSCR-AM "The Score."
