The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has appointed Ray Whittington of DePaul University to the Auditing Standards Board. Whittington will be the only academic member of the board.
A resident of Glencoe, Ill., Whittington, 50, is currently Ledger & Quill director of the School of Accountancy at DePaul. He is treasurer of the Federated Schools of Accounting and the author of professional development courses and textbooks on accounting. He has previously been a member of the AICPA’s accounting and review services committee and the accounting literature awards committee. He also has served the profession at the state level as a member of the California Society of CPAs’ accounting educators committee. Whittington received his Masters Degree from Texas Tech University and his doctorate from the University of Houston.
The Auditing Standards Board’s objective is to promulgate auditing standards and procedures to be observed by members of the AICPA in accordance with the Institute’s Rules of Conduct. The AICPA is the national professional organization of CPAs with more than 330,000 members in business and industry, public practice, government and education. The AICPA is the first national, professional membership organization to be ISO 9001 certified, in recognition of its quality management and assurance practices.
Bowman's Accounting Report lists DePaul’s accountancy school as one of the top 10 sources in the country for partners in Big Six accounting firms. The school is a full and charter member of the Federation of Schools of Accountancy and has earned the highest level of accounting accreditation by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business-The International Association for Management Education.
