DePaul University Expands Its Oak Forest Campus
Education and Adult Student Programs to be Offered at South Campus
DePaul University will officially launch its new south campus at a dedication and open house at 5:30 p.m. April 14, at the University & College Center of South Suburban College, 16333 S. Kilbourn Ave., Oak Forest.
The newly expanded campus offers programs that are designed specifically for adults returning to school through DePaul’s School for New Learning. The campus also offers two School of Education master’s programs, a certificate program for education administrators and a certificate program in human resources.
DePaul had leased scattered space in the college complex since opening a south campus in 1993. A recent building addition made it possible for the university to substantially increase its presence, centralize its operation and erect its own sign. The new developments signify DePaul’s increased commitment to bringing quality educational services to the South Suburbs.
DePaul has taken a five-year lease on the new space, which encompasses almost 7,200 square feet. It includes five classrooms, three of which are completely technologically-equipped; five faculty offices; a conference room and a computer lab that features 21 state-of-the art computers.
"We’ve created more modern facilities and provided room for additional students in the future," said Nadine Przychodni, South Campus administrator. There are currently about 185 DePaul students enrolled in classes at this site.
With the new and improved space, DePaul is hoping to better meet the needs of those living in the south suburbs. "What this does is set the stage for expanded programs in the future," said William Calzaretta, executive director of suburban campuses. "We will be working with our schools and colleges to see what additional programs can and should be added."
DePaul is the largest Catholic university in the United States with over 18,000 students enrolled in programs at six campuses throughout metropolitan Chicago.
The public is encouraged to attend the South Campus open house, where they can tour the new facility and learn more about the programs offered. For additional details call 708/633-9091.
