Rare Book Collection On Exhibit At DePaul University
Rare Book Collection On Exhibit At DePaul University
Rare books from one of the first collections to be compiled by a woman in the United States will be exhibited at DePaul University from April 11 to June 30 in the Richardson Library, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., Room 314.
Carrie Estelle Doheney, wife of Edward L. Doheney, one of the early California oil developers, collected rare books for close to 30 years. She donated a number of books to the Vincentians of St. Mary’s of the Barrens in Perryville, Mo., the motherhouse of the Vincentians in the United States. The books exhibited at DePaul are from that collection. The exhibition includes a 15th century Book of Hours, an 18th century antiphon, beautifully illuminated liturgical works, early bibles and 20th century fine bindings.
The exhibition is free and open to the public, and may be viewed Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
