Japanese Decorative Arts On Exhibit At DePaul
Visually arresting art from Japan will be on exhibit at the DePaul University Art Gallery, 2350 N. Kenmore Ave., from July 24 through Sept. 13.
The exhibition, "Art in Daily Life: The Japanese Tradition," encompasses decorative art from the 18th century through the present. The collection includes elaborate silk kimonos, paintings, screens, ceramics, woodwork and lacquer and a group of objects from a Japanese tea ceremony.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. An opening reception will be held on Friday, July 23, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The majority of the collection is on loan from the May Weber Museum of Cultural Arts in Chicago. Some of the pieces are from local private collections, according to Louise Lincoln, director of the art gallery.
