Baker & McKenzie Partner Martin R. Castro Joins DePaul Board Of Trustees

Martin R. Castro, 36, a partner at the international law firm Baker & McKenzie, has been elected to DePaul University’s Board of Trustees by the Members of the Corporation.

Castro represents corporate clients in commercial and international litigation while acting as the hiring partner for his firm’s Chicago office and heading the firm’s national attorney diversity efforts. His numerous charitable and civic activities include board membership at the Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Community Trust. He also is a member of many legal associations, including the American, Illinois, Chicago and Hispanic bar associations.

A resident of the Wicker Park neighborhood, Castro earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from DePaul’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences in 1985 and his law degree from the University of Michigan in 1988.

Castro was the first in his family to earn an advanced degree. "Having attended DePaul, I am a big believer in the university’s commitment to providing a quality, accessible education to the city’s diverse population," he said. "I’ve been blessed with many great opportunities because of my education, and I want to ensure those opportunities for generations of students to come."

"We welcome the contributions of Martin Castro, a DePaul alumnus with impressive credentials in the field of law, to our board," said Edward A. Brennan, chairman of DePaul’s Board of Trustees.
