University's Internet Events Guide Wins Top Award from
the International Association of Business Communicators
DePaul University's Calendar of Events Internet site has won a Gold Quill Award of Excellence from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC), one of the top honors in the field of public relations. DePaul's calendar was one of only 30 Gold Quill winners chosen from 1,700 entries in the annual, international public relations contest.
Part of the university's Internet web site, the Calendar of Events is a comprehensive, widely accessible guide to public events sponsored by DePaul. Viewers can sort event information by date, college, type of event or keyword, and can even print out a street map that locates the sites of events. The calendar is located by clicking "events" on the university's web: www.depaul.edu. DePaul sponsors hundreds of public events each year. The site enables the university's event hosts to manage their own listings and make events more accessible to the public.
The DePaul Calendar of Events was created by Kris Gallagher, director of Communications, and Dylan Kuhn, applications developer for Information Services. The site was developed from a proposal by a team of DePaul staff members enrolled in the university's Executive Staff Personal Computing Program, a special program that teaches web page creation and other technical skills to employees. Team members included DePaul employees Margaret Power, Sandra Bowen, Kevin Crosby, Suzi Wachowski and Virginia Knittle.
IABC has 15,000 members and 110 chapters worldwide. The Gold Quill Awards will be presented in a ceremony June 17 at the IABC's international convention in New Orleans.
