DePaul University Spring Business Conference May 7 To Feature Six Panels and Keynote Speech By Jays Foods President

Moskow, Fogel and Crawford Will Receive DePaul Awards

Jays Foods President Thomas E. Howe, winner of the 1997 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award, will deliver the keynote address at DePaul University's Spring Business Conference on May 7 at the Chicago Hilton and Towers, 720 S. Michigan Ave. The event is hosted by DePaul's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business and College of Commerce.

The conference, "Strategic Ideas for Business Managers in the 21st Century," features six panel discussions on current issues affecting business and the presentation of three DePaul awards to prominent leaders in the arts, technology and business.

Michael H. Moskow, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, will receive DePaul's Business Leadership Award for his work at the helm of the bank and for his support of a study on the economic resurgence of the region. Henry Fogel, president of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, will be presented with the Civic Leadership Award in recognition of his distinguished work in making the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the renovated Symphony Center an impressive civic asset. Curtis J. Crawford, president and chief executive officer of Zilog, Inc., a Campbell, California-based technology company, and former president of Lucent's Microelectronics Group, will receive the DePaul Alumni Award of Merit for his career achievements since earning an MBA from DePaul in 1978.

Sponsored by DePaul's College of Commerce Advisory Council and Alumni Board, the conference will begin at 7:30 a.m. with a continental breakfast networking session and a welcome from Ronald J. Patten, dean of DePaul's College of Commerce and Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.

The panel discussions featuring business leaders and DePaul faculty members will be held between 8:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Concurrent sessions on "Changing Strategic Direction," "International Investing," and "Perspectives in Family Business" will be presented between 8:45-a.m. and 10 a.m. Three more concurrent sessions, "Managing Strategic Direction: Measuring Performance," "Creativity in the Workplace," and "Should Corporations and Pension Funds Own Real Estate?," follow from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.

Howe, a 1973 graduate of DePaul's College of Commerce, will deliver an address on strategic visioning for the 21st Century during a luncheon from 12:15 p.m.-1:30 p.m. In addition, Moskow, Fogel and Crawford will be presented with their awards during the luncheon.

"The conference covers ideas that are relevant to the contemporary business scene," Patten said. "The panelists and speaker will present new ideas that business professionals can apply to their work immediately. This exemplifies the college's mission to be a leader in the dissemination of practical knowledge as it relates to business and its role in a global society."
