The Chicago String Quartet, In Residence At DePaul University Will Perform Schubert, Schoenberg, And Beethoven At June 1 Concert

Dates Announced For Next Season's DePaul Series

The Chicago String Quartet, in residence at DePaul University, will perform Schubert's Quartet No. 12 in C minor, D.703, "Quartettsatz;" Arnold Schoenberg's Quartet No. 3, Op. 30; and Beethoven's Quartet No. 8 in E minor, Op. 59, No 2. on June 1 at the DePaul Concert Hall, 800 W. Belden Ave. The 8 p.m. concert is the final date of the quartet's four-concert series at DePaul this season.

Tickets are $25, with students and senior discounts available. Proceeds benefit the DePaul School of Music Scholarship Fund. For tickets, please call 312/922-1999.

The quartet--DePaul music school faculty members first violin Joseph Genualdi, second violin Stefan Hersh, violist Rami Solomonow and cellist Christopher Costanza-- also announced dates for a three-concert subscription series at DePaul for the 1998-99 season. Concerts will be held on Nov. 2, 1998 and Jan. 18 and March 1, 1999 at DePaul's Concert Hall.

The November concert will feature the Dvorak Bass Quintet and several waltzes by Dvorak. The guest bassist for the concert will be Peter Lloyd, principal bassist of the Minnesota Orchestra and a nationally-renowned chamber musician.

CHICAGO STRING QUARTET TO PERFORM CENTENNIAL WORK BY GEORGE PERLE

The Chicago String Quartet, in residence at DePaul University, will premiere a new, commissioned quartet work written by Pulitzer Prize-winning conductor and DePaul alumnus George Perle to commemorate DePaul University's centennial. The quartet piece will be performed at a free public concert next year at the DePaul Concert Hall, 800 W. Belden Ave.

The concert, to be held at 8 p.m. on May 14, 1999, is part of 1998-99 season for New Music DePaul, the professional contemporary music series sponsored by DePaul's School of Music. Other dates and artists for the 1998-99 New Music DePaul season will be announced. Composer George Flynn, who chairs the department of musicianship studies and composition at DePaul's School of Music, is music director for the series. DePaul music school faculty members Joseph Genualdi, first violin, Stefan Hersh, second violin, Rami Solomonow, viola, and Christopher Costanza, cello, are the members of the quartet.

The debut of the George Perle composition is one of dozens of events planned throughout the university during the next year to celebrate the centennial of DePaul's founding. The events begin with the 100th commencement ceremonies June 13-14, 1998.
