Susan S. Moody, Executive V.P. of Corporate Banking at First Chicago NBD Corp., Elected to DePaul Board of Trustees

Susan S. Moody, 44, executive vice president of Corporate Banking at First Chicago NBD Corp., has been elected to DePaul University's Board of Trustees by the Members of the Corporation. Moody is one of five new trustees announced at the board’s May 21 meeting.

"Susan Moody's appointment to our Board of Trustees recognizes the strong link between DePaul and First Chicago NBD, where many DePaul alumni work," said Edward A. Brennan, chairman of DePaul's Board of Trustees. "We have made a strategic effort to increase the number of women business leaders on the board and are honored that Susan accepted our invitation."

Moody, a resident of the Near North Side, was named an executive vice president at First Chicago in 1996, making her the highest-ranking female employee at the bank. She is responsible for all domestic and international customer relationships. Moody also serves as chair for First Chicago NBD's United Way/Crusade of Mercy Campaign.

She joined the National Bank of Detroit (NBD), a predecessor to First Chicago NBD, in 1979 as a management trainee and went on to hold increasingly responsible positions in the commercial lending area and the Credit Administration Division. In 1983, she was named assistant vice president in the National Banking Division, and in 1985 was elected second vice president. She was appointed vice president in the Michigan Banking Division in 1987 and one year later, she became division head.

In 1994, Moody was named senior vice president and the following year assumed the role of executive vice president and head of Corporate Banking. Following the merger of NBD and First Chicago Corp. in 1995, she was appointed executive vice president in charge of domestic market segments. She relocated to Chicago in May 1997 and assumed additional responsibilities for international markets later that year.

A native of Detroit, Moody earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1976 and an MBA in 1983, both from Wayne State University. She is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, the Detroit Athletic Club and The Chicago Council on Foreign Relations.

Also joining the board are: Mary Dempsey, a DePaul law school alumna and commissioner of the Chicago Public Libraries; John W. Martin Jr., a DePaul liberal arts and law graduate who is vice president and general counsel at the Ford Motor Co.; the Rev. Charles F. Shelby, C.M., a DePaul liberal arts graduate and director of the National Association of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville, Mo.; and Errol L. Stone, a Chicago attorney.
