Ethicist Kenneth Goodpaster Will Present Workshop and Lecture On Ethics In
Education And Business At DePaul University Oct. 28
Leading business ethics scholar Kenneth Goodpaster will conduct a workshop on ethics education and deliver a lecture about incorporating conscience in organizations Oct. 28 at DePaul Center, 1 E. Jackson Blvd.
Goodpaster will present the workshop, "Beyond Ethics 101: The Integration of Ethics in the Curriculum," at 3 p.m. in Room 8005. The interactive workshop is geared toward teachers and students who want to make ethical considerations an important part of professional, business, and public service education curricula.
The workshop is jointly sponsored by DePaul’s Institute for Business and Professional Ethics and the Public Services Graduate Program and is a DePaul centennial event. It also is an optional pre-conference event for the fifth annual university conference promoting business ethics, "From the Universities to the Marketplace: The Business Ethics Journey," that the institute is hosting in Chicago from Oct. 29-31.
At 7 p.m., Goodpaster will deliver the Fourth Annual Public Service Graduate Program Lecture on "Conscience and its Counterfeits in Organizational Life" in the DePaul Center concourse. He will make the case for incorporating conscience in the policymaking processes of public service and business organizations. The event is sponsored by DePaul’s Public Service Graduate Program.
Goodpaster holds the Koch Endowed Chair in Business Ethics at the University of St. Thomas, St. Paul, Minn. Prior to joining the St. Thomas faculty, he was a professor at the Harvard University Business School, where he developed the school’s ethics curriculum. Before that, he taught philosophy at Notre Dame.
Both Goodpaster events are open to the public. The workshop is $10 in advance or $20 at the door. The lecture is free. Registration is requested for either event. Call 312/362-6238.
