Chicago's First Campus Gambling Summit Set for September 30 At The James R.
Thompson-State Of Illinois Center
The Chicago Crime Commission, DePaul University and the Illinois Attorney General's Office will host the Chicagoland area's first in-depth educational conference on the controversial issue of campus sports gambling. In cooperation with the NCAA, this one-day event on Wednesday, September 30, 1998, will bring together experts from law enforcement, gambling and intercollegiate athletics to discuss the impact of sports gambling on college campuses.
The conference will attempt to better prepare those individuals on college campuses who are in the best position to prevent one of the most frightening problems in intercollegiate athletics today.
To that end, the conference will be open to athletic administrators, coaches and other staff close to the issues, including compliance officers, faculty athletic representatives, sports information directors, trainers, residence life personnel and campus security.
Included in the program will be presentations from Cedric Dempsey, Executive Director of the NCAA, Bill Saum, NCAA Agent and Representative of the NCAA Gambling Task Force, the FBI, the Chicago Crime Commission, prosecutors from the recent Arizona State and Northwestern cases, student-athletes from the Northwestern case, Rick Telander, sports columnist with the Chicago Sun-Times and ESPN Magazine, and other national figures to be announced.
Conference pre-registration will be through DePaul University with a deadline of September 18, 1998. This conference will be free of charge and reservations may be made by calling Mary Hie at 773/325-7504 or in writing to:
