Guest Lecturer Brings Ancient African Dynasties To DePaul
University On November 14
Lecturer Peggy Brooks-Bertram, associate for faculty development and public affairs at the State University of New York at Buffalo, will shed light on "The Wonderful African Queens and Kings" in a lecture at DePaul University, Nov. 14, in the Egan Urban Center, 243 S. Wabash Ave., Suite 9100, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Brooks-Bertram is a playwright, poet and author of several children’s books, including a multi-volume work of poetry entitled "African on My Stairs." In her talk, which is free and open to the public, she will focus on historian Drusilla Dunjee Houston’s book entitled "The Wonderful Ethiopians of the Cushite Empires." The lecture will cover the ancient empires of Africa and the kings and queens who ruled them. Brooks-Bertram will also touch upon the impact of these dynasties on world civilization and the infusion of African history in public school curriculum
Brooks-Bertram earned master’s and doctorate degrees in public health from the John Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health.
