DePaul's School for New Learning to Celebrate Women's History Month

DePaul University's School for New Learning (SNL) Alumni Board and the Chicago Cultural Center will observe Women's History Month in March with a performance in the center's theater at 78 E. Washington St.

"The Words of a Woman," written by Christine Mary McGinley, writer and SNL graduate, will be presented at 2 p.m., March 9. It is a literary mosaic composed entirely of the written words of 50 prominent past and present women artists, thinkers and writers.

The presentation is not only for women, according to McGinley. "It simply speaks from the heart of a woman, and sometimes when we listen to the female voice, we hear a voice which exists in all of us, a voice we as a society are just beginning to hear," she said.

"The Words of a Woman" premiered in Ann Arbor, Mich., in 1995 and has been performed at universities and community arts centers around the country.

A reception will follow the performance, which is free and open to the public.

DePaul's School for New Learning was founded in 1972 to serve working adult students, who design individualized programs of study in conjunction with SNL faculty and staff.
