Mayor Daley to Present Scholarships to DePaul Students

Mayor Richard M. Daley will present scholarships to 26 Chicago students attending DePaul University during a ceremony for The Mayor's Leadership 2000 Scholarship program on April 15.

Rev. John P. Minogue, C.M., DePaul president, and Msgr. John J. Egan will also participate.

The ceremony and reception will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. in Preston Bradley Hall at the Chicago Cultural Center, 78 E. Washington St.

The scholarship program began in 1992 as a partnership between the City of Chicago and DePaul, and will continue until the 21st Century. During this period, DePaul has pledged to give $2.5 million in scholarships to students who will lead the city into the next century.

Students receive the scholarships, valued between $1,500 and $5,000, based on qualities of leadership, academic standing and financial need. These DePaul students will participate in specialized programs designed to enhance their educational and practical civic experiences, such as internships with city agencies, Chicago public schools or community agencies.

Daley also will proclaim April 15 The Mayor's Leadership 2000 Day.
