Chicago Bear and DePaul Student Dwayne Joseph to Give Stay-In-School Message at South Side Literacy Center

Chicago Bears Defensive Back Dwayne Joseph, who is also pursuing a master's degree in DePaul University's School of Education, will give a motivation talk to elementary school students from Stateway Gardens April 23.

Joseph will tell students participating in an after-school program at DePaul's Center for Cultural Empowerment through Literacy that even a professional athlete needs an education because athletic careers do not last forever.

Joseph is an excellent role model for students, said center director Vera Rhimes, because he not only completed an undergraduate degree, but is earning an advanced degree so he is prepared when his career in sports ends.

Joseph will speak at 3 p.m. at the center, which is located on the second floor of the Chicago Public Library Bee Branch, 3647 S. State St.

Students from first through eighth grade attend the program from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. daily to learn computer skills and get assistance on their homework.
