DePaul Opera Theatre Presents a Classic Love Story, "Dido and Aeneas," On Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and Nov. 2

The DePaul Opera Theatre will present "Dido and Aeneas", a tale of tragic love adapted by Henry Purcell from classic literature, for three performances at the DePaul Concert Hall, 800 W. Belden Ave. Admission is free for the performances on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m.

Thomas Brown, director of graduate studies at DePaul's School of Music, will give a pre-show lecture about the opera on Oct. 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Culled from the pages of Virgil's "Aeneid," the tragedy of Dido and her love for Aeneas is one of the best known stories of classic literature. "Well known for its beautiful lyrical music and sublime chorus music, 'Dido' has always been a favorite of contemporary audiences," said Harry Silverstein, DePaul Opera Theatre director.

The production will be conducted by Lyric Opera artist and DePaul faculty member Robert Kaminskas. Staged by Silverstein, "Dido and Aeneas" will be presented with minimal sets and costumes, and full orchestration. The production continues The DePaul Opera Theatre's tradition of alternating Baroque and contemporary operas for its annual fall production at the Concert Hall.

DePaul's School of Music presents more than 300 public performances in a variety of musical styles each year. For more information about School of Music events, call (773) 325-7664.
